Trichology:
Trichology is the science and biology of the scalp and hair in dis-‘ease' (disease), identifying disorders of poor scalp environments, hair shaft breakage and providing scientific healthy hair care restoration systems for different forms of scalp disorders and hair loss issues.
Trichologist:
A Clinical Trichologist is defined as a Professional Hair Doctor (P.H.D.) with Para medical skills and knowledge who can properly diagnose and treat hair and scalp dis-‘eases’ and disorders.
The Purpose:
Connie Judge-Johnson founded the National Trichology Training Institute in January 2006. The purpose of the extensive high-level training is to provide empowering education about trichology. The continuing educational 400-hour course is designed for licensed cosmetologists and Barber Stylists to become a trichologist. Moreover, to certify them as one who is competent and capable of properly diagnosing and treating hair and scalp dis-‘eases’ and disorders in a clinical salon. In addition, to network with those in certain types of medical practices .
The Need:
Recent studies done by Global Vision Beauty Technology confirmed more than 40 million people women in particular (African Americans) are losing their hair. There is a serious hair loss epidemic due to improper chemical services, abusive hair weaving, polymers on the scalp, and twisting and binding hair too tight, often causing receding hairlines, premature balding, and even permanent hair loss.
Moreover, in today’s society, people are emotionally stressed, taking medications, have thyroid diseases, on dialysis, taking cancer treatments, have toxic bodies, genetic predispositions, alopecia areata, and hair loss in menopausal women. The educational and practical services provided by a trichologist could slow down the progression of the Hair Loss Epidemic.
The Mission and Goal:
Our mission is to concentrate on meeting the needs of those with critical hair loss issues. Our goal is to provide interactive hair loss awareness forums that will educate the communities about healthy hair care. Moreover, to develop alliances between medical professionals, health care professionals and trichology practitioners. The hair loss epidemic is an untapped market that demands unity and attention from these different professions. It is imperative that we network together in order to impede the progression of this epidemic through education and intervention.
